Why You Should Build a Brand
Updated: Jan 2, 2021
Direct sales people, small business owners, micro influencers, side hustlers: this one is for ALL of you, so listen up!
People are naturally drawn to beauty. We trust consistency. We value professionalism! Building a brand is about so much more than posting photos of your products or service on social media pages.
Branding is about building a personality for your business, and establishing a relationship with your audience. If you are not working towards building a thorough brand every time you post on social media, send an email, or print a flyer- you are missing out on a valuable aspect to marketing!

Now here’s the thing, even if you are in direct sales and marketing a product with a team FOR a company- you should still be branding yourself. Let’s just say that you’re primarily using social media for marketing your products or services. These are the questions you need to be asking.
Who is your ideal client? And don’t answer that with “everyone”, because if it’s everyone than it’s actually no one!
Is your brand voice consistent in nature? Do you speak in the same tone or vibe every time you post? Because again, you are building a brand personality here! Do you write your sentences long or short? Do you like your captions to have spaces between them? Do you put an emoji at the start of every line?
These things matter, and consistency is KEY!
How do you want your audience to feel when they connect with you? Maybe excited or joyful? Looking forward to the future? Maybe a specific aesthetic? An example of this would be: you’re selling spa-like services and you want your audience to feel the need for coziness through the tone in your photos.
And of course, if you’re posting graphics or using a website or prints of some sort, you must have specific brand fonts and colors.
I recommend choosing a color palette with 1-2 primary colors and 2-3 secondary colors (or just stick with the primary colors!). As a general rule of thumb, don’t use more than 2 fonts (or 3 types of fonts for websites). One of my best pieces of advice to small biz clients, is telling them to edit all their marketing images with the same group of Presets, again to convey consistency.
Having good design builds trust with your clients. Having consistency builds recognition. Work to make your brand memorable. As a general rule, people need to see a product or service marketed to them 7 times before they will take action and purchase that product or service.
Continue establishing your brand, and make sure they remember who you are as they get close to wanting to make a purchase!
